Product Review : Thayers Rose Petal Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Toner

the other day i did a product review where i talked about a toner that i wasn't that crazy about which is the Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion. i thought since i told you about a product that didn't thrill me i should tell you about a toner that i'm a BIG fan of, which is Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Toner!

first of all i would like to highlight my skin condition:

skin type: oily but dehydrated and and sensitive
skin concerns: PIH (dark acne scars), acne prone, pores

for your information, witch hazel is one of the most popular natural acne treatments worldwide and is used in dozens of over-the-counter treatments. witch hazel's primary use for skin is as a natural astringent, which could help in controlling acne by reducing inflammation, and decreasing oil and redness. it can lessen bacteria growth on the skin while speeding up the healing of scars, scabs, and infection. those with oily skins or combination ones usually will love it.

when i first came across Thayers, of course i did some research to find out more about their products. according to Google (where else do you go to find info these days lol), Thayers has been around since the mid 1800's, so they are obviously doing something right. they have a bunch of different types of toner ranging from Original to Lavendar to Cucumber, even an Unscented one for those sensitive/fragrance-free freaks. soon they'll come out with a new one which is Coconut Water. some people might find just plain Witch Hazel a bit drying on their skin but Thayers has Aloe Vera in it which i find helps in preventing that drying effect.

let's jump to the review section, shall we?

the toner comes in a big bottle (355ml). it is alcohol and paraben-free, plus it contains undistilled witch hazel with aloe vera, which should be amazing for sensitive skin

Thayers remarkably soothing Rose Toner is made with rose-petal water and their proprietary Witch Hazel extract.

i love that the plastic bottle is transparent, so that i can easily track how much product left. the toner itself feels just like water - thin and runny.

i reckon you are familiar with Hada Labo products, so here i put the two items next to each other so that you have an idea how big the bottle is

i've been using this everyday for almost eight months now and i can't believe i'm not finished with one bottle. it really lasts a long time and a little goes a long way. it is very light, hydrating and refreshing on the skin. i love how it made my facial skin super soft upon application.

i apply this toner twice a day, once in the morning and once at night using cotton pads. it doesn't immediately get rid of acne, but it definitely has helped my skin so much after frequent usage by tightening pores, controlling oil production and locking moisture in.

the thing i love the most about this toner is that it makes my skin bloom, exactly as they claim on their website. i can visibly see that it restores my dehydrated skin and brings out a natural and glowing complexion. it's supposed to help in collagen production, strengthening skin cells, and fading blemishes and scars as well but i'm not so sure about those since i use other products in my skincare routine too.

my face often gets blotchy, inflamed and itchy due to its sensitivity, and most times skin bumps that look like pimples emerge out of nowhere. hence i am SO thankful when i discovered that this toner helps in soothing the painful sensation. sometimes i'd drench a cotton pad and leave it onto certain parts of my face (also under eyes) for a couple of minutes, as i find it rejuvenate tired skin well.

i've tried several toners before such as Aiken Tea Tree Oil Spot Away Pore Refining Toner, L'elan Vital Revitalizing Toner and Oxy Oil Control Toner, but none of those show similar result to Thayers'. as mentioned earlier, i do have oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin, but this toner didn't irritate my skin at all like other toners do. it is so gentle and absorbs quickly.

to be honest i don't even like rosy scent, but for some reasons i find the scent of this toner very calming and refreshing. gives me spa feels!

i'm not sure whether Thayers products are sold in any physical stores in Malaysia. i've seen many people selling it on Instagram and Carousell but the selling price is rather higher due to delivery charge, postage and all.

another option is, you can get it online from Hermo for RM60++, but knowing Hermo, they always had an ongoing sale almost all the time, so you might want to get yours there. i think this is a bit more expensive than usual drugstore price range, but i find it worthy because of the size which might take you at least six to eight months to finish.

i'd rate it at 9/10, and would definitely repurchase and recommend it if you have oily to combination skin too!
