Product Review : Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence

as mentioned previously in my recent post, i've started using Korean brands for my skincare needs and i came across the Benton line. i've read a lot of good reviews and i was sold when it stated that it is recommended for troubled skin, so i decided to give Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence a chance.

this product is packed with 88% snail secretion filtrate and 2% bee venom. the ingredients in this essence helps to repair skin damage, sooth and hydrate. it also contains some AHA’s to gently exfoliate the skin. the snail mucin smooths the skin and improves skin texture, while the bee venom stimulates the natural collagen and elastin in the skin, which is a fantastic anti-wrinkle ingredient.

the 60ml product is housed in a sturdy plastic bottle with a pump. quite slim, definitely a travel-friendly packaging. i like the dark brown colour as well. it's easy to differentiate Benton products from others.

Ingredients: Snail Secretion Filtrate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycerin, Arbutin, Human Ogliopeptide-1, Bee Venom, Plantago Asiatica Extract, Laminana Digita Extract, Dios Pyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Ulmus Campestris (Elm) Extract, Bacilus Ferment, Azelaic Acid, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Beta-Glucan, Betaine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross Polymer, Adenosine, Panthenol, Allantoin, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Arginine

i also love that you can still see the amount of product left inside the bottle

this stuff is clear and feels lightweight, but it's not as runny as water

it is a gel consistency and spreads easily

the essence has a very faint smell that i can’t quite put my finger on. whatever it is, it doesn’t last long and by the time you’ve rubbed this into your skin it’ll be gone (pls ignore the redness on my skin. it's a mosquito bite, lol)

my thoughts on Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence:

the essence is lightly hydrating and has no odour. it soaks up very quickly, but i prefer tapping the essence into my skin for better absorption anyway. i have oily skin and the essence sinks right into the skin without feeling tacky nor greasy, so that's good. however if your skin is dry, i don't think it's hydrating enough. i use two pumps for my whole face and sometimes i do three whenever i feel like it.

you might be wondering where this essence fits in, as in, what step it is in a skincare routine. after you’ve washed your face and applied your toner, apply the essence before your cream. a simple way to remember is to apply things in order of their consistency, from lightest to heaviest. of course your toner is the most watery, then the essence, then your gel or serum, and then finally your cream.

i tried the essence out for the first time for a few days, and i noticed my skin was starting to break out but i disregarded the situation since i often get breakouts anyway. i continued using it for another week and noticed my skin getting worse. i wasn’t sure that it was the essence so i stopped using it and waited for the blemishes to heal. when i started using it again, my skin flared up once more. i was really stubborn though, i kept giving it chances over and over for a couple of weeks until i finally decided to stop trying. i don’t know why i do this to myself, i just couldn’t let it go. for some reason my skin does not like this product :(

it's not all bad, really. i mean, i notice that it provides instant moisture and somewhat improves my skin barrier, which is great since i use so many actives. but i don’t see any major improvements on my skin. it doesn't really fade post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation that well too. i'm just trying to finish the entire bottle, really.

to summarise my review, i think it's a good essence, but not sure if it's really worth the hype. it's a good product for beginners or people who want a simple skincare routine, but don't expect to be blown away by it's healing claim. different skin type works differently, and sadly the healing claims wasn't obvious for my skin. i stopped using it after about two months.

with a heavy heart i conclude that this essence was not going to be the miracle product like it was for many other people. i bought this essence thinking that it would help heal my acne, but instead it made it worse. i really wanted to love this product, but despite testing it in several ways (e.g. on daily basis, every other night, twice per week) i just had to stop using this product because it made my skin on some areas of my face unbearably itchy. i also felt my face getting tight. quite unpleasant, honestly. i've read other reviews also mentioned about the tightening sensation. this is probably due to the astringent effect of bee venom. overall i don't think it's a bad product; it's just definitely not for me.

i ordered the Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence (RM70.00 with free shipping) from Hermo. however Hermo is known to have ongoing discount sales almost all the freaking time so you could get some $$ off, especially since Malaysia's GST is zero-rated effective from 1st June 2018!

if you’re new to Hermo, what you have to do is to click on my referral link here and you will be invited to set up an account. you’ll receive RM15 Hermo First Purchase voucher that you can use for your first purchase on the website once you’ve set up the Hermo account. you’re welcome 😉

have you tried products with snail mucin and bee venom? i’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

thanks for reading!
